Mayor alarmed over additional costs in construction of city hall
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has apprehension over the additional cost the City Government has to spend for the construction of the city hall.
Mabilog received a report from contractor FF Cruz and Associates stating that the ongoing construction does not yet include facilities like generators, air conditioning system, elevators, fixtures and other amenities necessary for the building.
The contractor informed Mabilog that the project is almost 85 percent finished.
As it is, the mayor said what is being contructed now is just the “shell” of the building and nothing more.
“I am quite alarmed that if such works are not included, then it would mean additional cost and borrowings for the city,” he said.
The mayor said the added facilities would mean P200 million to P300 million more in needed funds.
“I already instructed the City Legal Office to look into the terms of reference in the contract so that we will know what are included or not in the project,” he said.
The City Government loaned P450 million from Land Bank of the Philippines for the construction of the seven-storey edifice at its old site in Plaza Libertad.
It is expected to be completed February next year.
City Hall offices and departments are temporarily located on the 3rd level of Robinsons Place Iloilo.*
