Goodbye Mandurriao, Hello Cabatuan

Forty-one passengers bound for Manila will be in the last plane out of the old Iloilo Airport in Mandurriao, Iloilo City while it is all-systems go for the new one in Sta. Barbara-Cabatuan, Iloilo. On board Cebu Pacific's Airbus 319, the last plane out will be Flight 146 set to depart 8:45 tonight.

A look at the new Iloilo Airport

The New Iloilo Airport which will be opened for commercial flights starting tomorrow, June 14, is a modern 188-hectare complex located in the towns of Cabatuan and Sta. Barbara, Iloilo, about 20 kilometers away from the old airport with state-of-the-art facilities. It is designed to handle 1.2 million passengers and 11,500 tons of cargoes per year and can accommodate aircraft as big as Airbus 330 with a seating capacity of 276.

LGUs join call for safe release of Nilo, Luing

Local government units in Iloilo have joined the calls for the safe release of abducted activists Ma. Luisa Posa-Dominado and Nilo Arado.

At least three city and municipal councils and a provincial board have separately passed resolutions condemning the abduction of the two victims and the shooting of human rights worker Jose Ely Garachico.

City mayor Jerry Treñas yesterday denied reports that he is not invited for today's inauguration of the new Iloilo airport of international standard in Sta. Barbara-Cabatuan. He said, he will be around to join President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for the inauguration.

Inaugural ceremony for new set of city officials set on Friday

The inaugural ceremony for the new set of city government officials is set on June 15, 2007 with Department of Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez Sr. as the administering officer. The ceremony will be held at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand.
