Guimaras gets about P7-M aid from KOICA for disaster mgmt.
The Korea International Cooperating Agency (KOICA) will implement the Yeosu project in Guimaras to strengthen its disaster preparedness, response and risk reduction management, through a fund assistance of $170,000, covering a period of one year.
The $170,000 aid is equivalent to more or less P7 million.
Guimaras Information Officer Leny Fible said a memorandum of understanding for the project was signed on Tuesday between the implementing partners.
The Korean representatives who came to Guimaras were Shin Dong-Young; Kim Young-So, director of Organizing Committee for Yeosu Expo; and Kim Sung-Gwi, director of Korea Maritime Institute.
Other signatories were representatives from Guimaras provincial government, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office.
The signing was also witnessed by officials of the municipalities and barangays that will benefit from the project.
The project will facilitate the conduct of a province-wide assessment of physical, social, environmental and economic vulnerabilities, and existing natural and man-made hazards.
The project also aims to develop a comprehensive plan for disaster preparedness, response and risk management, and a project proposal on the implementation of a comprehensive disaster management program of Guimaras.
Guimaras Gov. Felipe Hilan Nava said the project will benefit the province as it will help identify risk areas so that residents will be more aware and prepared should disaster, natural or manmade, strike their communities.*PIA
