City to upgrade police radio communication equipment
Amid the new era in technology especially on mobile phones and other high technology equipment, the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) will revive the use of handheld radios as communication equipment in its peace and order drive.
Mayor Jerry Treñas said a radio repeater is installed at the city police for easy and immediate police response. The city government will upgrade all its radio communication in six police precincts for the efficient relay of information.
The use of handheld radios is seen by the city government as important tool for the police in all its crime response aside from their weapons and vehicles. He said with a handheld radio information could be immediately relayed in the different police units unlike the mobile phones when one needs to have a load to relay the message.
There were also several instances when the Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) company cuts off the telephone connections in police precincts after they failed to pay their bills.
Meanwhile, the city government is moving fast for the procurement of police patrol cars and motorcycles for different police units. They will add two more patrol cars for the Jaro police precinct and motorcycle units for the waterfront detachment.
Last week, the city government also provided one additional police patrol car for the Mandurriao police station.
