Cops recapture 1 of 3 fugitives in Roxas City jailbreak
ROXAS CITY – Three prisoners escaped early morning yesterday from the lock-up cell of the Roxas City PNP after they cut the door's iron grills using a hack saw blade.
Chief Inspector Leo Batiles, chief of Roxas City PNP, said the guard on duty SPO1 Ruben Castro did not notice the cutting of iron grills at cell number 3 which happened around 2 a.m. yesterday.
Batiles identified the prisoners as Crisanto Olive, Joevel Maquimot and Gerbe Lara, all of Roxas City. Oliva and Maquimot were in jail for violation of RA 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act while Lara is facing a theft case.
Police immediately conducted a hot pursuit operation after discovering the jailbreak and they were able to recapture Lara was at Legaspi-Bilbao this city.
Senior Supt. Josephus Angan, director of the Capiz Provincial Police Office, said that they will place under investigation the police on duty when the jailbreak happened. He said appropriate sanctions would be meted against SPO1 Castro if found that he had lapses in handling prisoners.
Police are still searching for the whereabouts of the two other fugitives as of press time yesterday.
