City lifts ban on motorcades
Interested parties who want to conduct motorcade in the city are now free to apply for a permit after Mayor Jerry Treñas lifted the order which bans the conduct of motorcades in Iloilo City. The banning was made after the city was devastated by Typhoon Frank.
Treñas recently lifted Executive Order 35 temporarily banning the conduct of motorcade in Iloilo City. EO 35 was issued to alleviate and balance the impact of the typhoon and unceasing oil price increase.
Treñas said the temporary ban on the conduct of motorcades in the city brought great results in some way considering the unimpeded swift clearing of the city highways of debris and the savings on oil consumption.
After the typhoon, the city hired casual workers to clean the debris and mud left by Typhoon Frank not only along the highways but in different schools, markets and other hardly affected areas such as in Jaro and Mandurriao districts. A team from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) helped in the clean up operations bringing with them several equipment to fast track the work.
Treñas said EO 35 has already served the purpose for which it was issued especially in restoring the confidence of the people that their city government is hardly working for the general welfare.
The chief executive said there are several sectors clamoring that they be allowed to exercise the medium of motorcade in making their activities, projects and programs known to the public.
Prior to the issuance of EO 35, there are several pending applications at the city hall for the staging of motorcade in the different parts of Iloilo City.
