Power supply in Capiz back
ROXAS CITY – "Let there be light in Capiz."
This was the directive of Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes to Capiz Electric Cooperative (CAPELCO) during his visit in Capiz, June 25.
Reyes was here in Capiz for a meeting with members of the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC) to assess the extent of damage in the province brought about by typhoon Frank.
To ensure immediate restoration of power supply in all the 16 towns of Capiz by Sunday, Reyes handed over P5 million as financial aid to CAPELCO.
Meanwhile, CAPELCO General Manager Edgar Diaz disclosed that through the electric cooperative's Task Force "Kapatid," electric cooperative's men from Bacolod City are helping here for the immediate rehabilitation and re-installation of power facilities in Capiz.
As of June 25 in the afternoon, the power supply of seven towns were already restored including Roxas City which, Diaz said, adding that the power supply of seven other towns are expected to be back this afternoon.
The power supply of Maayon and Pilar towns will be restored at 10:00 in the morning of June 29 instead of the earlier schedule of June 30, Diaz said.
The National Transmission Corporation (Transco) earlier said it was stepping up efforts to re-energize the towns, municipalities, cities and provinces that up to now have no electricity.
It said that the agency was concentrating its efforts at bringing to full operational status the Quezon grid consisting of the Tayabas-San Jose 500-kilovolt lines 1 and 2, Kalayaan-Gumaca 230 kV line 2, the San Miguel 69-kV line, Famy-Infanta 6-kV line, the Gumaca-Hondagua/Tagkawayan 6-kV line and the Atimonan line, to fully energize Luzon.
Transco said it hopes to have the Quezon grid fully operational in one week's time.
Panay Island, one of the hardest hit by typhoon "Frank," is already 50 percent energized.
Transco said 15 out of 28 towns in Iloilo, eight out of 16 towns in Antique, two out of 19 in Aklan and Capiz have already been energized. (PIA/Jemin B. Guillermo)
