Estancia reports P100M damage as power barge suffers major damage
At least P100 million in estimated damages have been reported by Iloilo's northernmost town of Estancia with all 25 barangays (villages) here affected by Typhoon Frank's "wrath and fury."
In a report furnished to The News Today (TNT), Mayor Restituto Mosqueda summed up partial damage report following rounds made throughout the town.
The mayor reported 13 "unofficial" deaths while 10 remains missing. Rescued victims were 42 including the 38 passengers of M/V Filipinas Cebu.
With estimated damage pegged thus far at P100 million, P30 million worth of damage is feared to have been incurred by the power barge here.
A total of 7,896 households or 8,041 families were hit with nearly P7 million in property damage initially assessed.
Dubbed as "Alaska of the Philippines," damage to fishery here was placed at P1.5 million with at least 17 commercial fishing boats incurring separate "undetermined damage cost."
Agricultural damage was estimated to be around P6.4 million. Some 35 hectares of riceland was overflooded while 235 hectares of cornland were affected by murky floodwaters. In cornland alone, a separate damage of P5.6 million was assessed with the figures still expected to increase.
High value crops were also not spared with some 160 mango trees damaged.
