Gathering of OFW families to highlight Migrant Workers Day in Iloilo City
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) here expects some 5,000 participants including families of overseas Filipino workers (OFW) and job seekers during the two-day celebration of the Migrant Workers Day or the Araw ng Pasasalamat sa OFWs on June 7-8.
James Mendiola, officer-in-charge of the OWWA regional office in Western Visayas said the activity will kick off with a motorcade along the major thoroughfares of the city followed by a short program at the SM City.
Lucky participants he said will bring home big prizes allotted for game winners as they have prepared 200 bags of rice at 25 kilos per bag, refrigerator and a washing machine.
Mendiola also added that the jobs fair will be specific only for overseas hiring, both sea based and land based jobs.
Moreover, the OWWA will also choose Outstanding OFWs in Western Visayas with three awardees each from the sea-based and land-based categories.
A P10, 000 cash award will be awarded to a financially and physically challenged OFW, he added.
The nationwide celebration will anchor on the theme 'Araw ng Pasasalamat, Saludo Kami Sa Yo.' (PNA)
