Establishment of barangay fire brigades ordered
Fire marshals in Western Visayas were instructed to organize barangay fire brigades as part of their mandate under fire prevention.
Regional director for Fire Protection 6 Fire S/Supt. Aloveel Ferrer said other than conducting inspections in various establishments, fire marshals have to conduct on a regular basis barangay volunteer trainings and seminars in their respective area of responsibility.
"Barangay fire brigades are our first line of defense during fire operations," Ferrer said.
"They can help our fire personnel in providing security and right of way to our fire trucks in areas where there are narrow streets," he said.
Ferrer also mentioned that barangay fire brigades will also serve as force multiplier of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
The BFP is also preparing manuals for the soon to be launched Kiddie and Junior Fire Marshal program as part of its fire prevention campaign in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd). (PNA)
