Heads of the information technology committees in both houses of Congress will speak during the 3rd National Summit on November 25 and 26 in Bacolod City, said Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, chairperson of the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP).
Senator Edgardo Angara, chairman of the Senate committee on science and technology, and Taguig City 2nd District Rep. Sigfrido Tinga, chairman of the House committee on information and communications technology, will be present major legislative directions in the ICT industry during the summit.
Angara will highlight the strategic importance of ICT to national development and competitiveness and as a potent tool to facilitate a range of information, communication, and transaction services that contribute to improving people’s lives.
Both Angara and Tinga have constantly stressed the importance of creating the Department of Information and Communications Technology, as champions of the sector in the 15th Congress, Batapa-Sigue said.
Angara is also chair of the Senate committee on education, culture and arts and serves as co-chair in the Congressional Commission on Science and Technology and Engineering.
Before he was elected congressman, Tinga served as mayor of Taguig for nine years and has successfully steered it to growth and development, making it one of fastest growing cities in the country.
The summit, which will be held at L’Fisher Hotel, will be attended by stakeholders from various national government agencies, local government units, academe and private sector. Educational tracks are open to students and IT professionals for minimal fees and the ICT exhibitions are open to the public free of charge.
