Iloilo LGUs avail of animal livelihood support from DA
The Department of Agriculture 6 has distributed goats and hogs to several local government units in Iloilo as part of the agency’s support to the government’s Comprehensive Livelihood Emergency Employment Program.
Ninety-three goats were distributed to beneficiaries in Barotac Viejo and Dingle towns and Passi City while 210 hogs were given to the towns
of Banate, Bingawan, Lemery and Miag-ao, and cities of Iloilo City and Passi .
Johnny Luces of the DA 6 Livestock Technical Assistance Unit said the program aims to help poor farmers, indigents, expatriates, out-of-school youths, and overseas workers who lost their jobs.
The assistance will allow them to start a new livelihood with the support of their municipal agriculture office, he said.
Three barangays in each town will get the animals, while each barangay has 10 beneficiaries. The MAO will monitor the beneficiaries and provide technical assistance.
Thirty female goats and a buck were distributed for reproduction and breeding for every barangay.
As of August, the DA 6 spent around P714,000 for this CLEEP-related project. The project is expected to create more than 50 jobs in Iloilo province alone.
Luces said the DA 6 has similar projects in other provinces in Western Visayas.*PNA
