PRC-Capiz marks IHL signing
ROXAS CITY – About 400 Capiceños lighted candles to commemorate the August 12, 1949 signing of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) at Geneva, Switzerland during rites held at the Roblee Hall of the Filamer Christian University.
The activity was part of the month-long IHL commemoration of the Red Cross.
Volunteers and members of organizations from Filamer Christian University, Capiz State University, Hercor College, and Colegio dela Purisima Concepcion supported the activity.
Atty. Kenneth Alovera, member of the PRC-Capiz Board of Directors, discussed IHL in relation to its implementation in signatory countries like the Philippines.
During the open forum, Alovera called on the students to help advocate the principles of IHL to humanize armed conflicts at the local and international levels.
To respect human rights is to uphold a just and humane society, he added.
PRC-Capiz Administrator Nelia Cartujano said they will conduct media hopping for two weeks, as a build-up activity of the campaign.
The “IHL Walk for Humanity” will be the culmination activity on August 26.
The Roblee Hall activity was the opening of the PRC-Capiz month-long celebration of the IHL that will include a series of activities including fora on Red Cross themed “Towards Achieving National Solidarity.”
The fora will provide a venue where the history and the principles of Red Cross will be disseminated to the public.*
