Heartbroken teener tries to drown self
A lovelorn teenage boy attempted to drown himself at the Guimaras-Iloilo Strait along Fort San Pedro in Iloilo City Sunday evening.
The police said that “Gary,” 17, went swimming with his friends with the plan to end his life.
At around 7:30 p.m., he swam away from the group who then noticed his disappearance. Seeing him now far from the shoreline, Gary’s friends called for assistance.
But when the rescuers went to save him, Gary purposely distanced himself from them.
“While we were trying to keep up with him, he was swimming away from us,” a rescuer said.
But the rescuers forced their way to Gary and tied him on the waist and pulled him towards the shore.
Asked why he attempted to end his life, Gary said he was “in despair” over a love gone wrong.
“First time ko nga nag-gugma pero nabigo pa ko (It’s my first time to fall in love yet I was heartbroken,” he confessed, saying he just broke up with his girlfriend after a fight.
Their argument allegedly started when he did not allow his girlfriend to hangout with some of her friends. While the girl assured him she would do so , she still went out with them.
This caused their argument, which led to their breakup, he said.
