One killed, two wounded as trike bumped politician’s car
A tricycle driver was killed after his driven vehicle collided with an SUV Monday evening at Brgy. Merced, Banate, Iloilo.
Police identified the victim as Milbert Basiya, 21, of Brgy. Natividad, Barotac Viejo, Iloilo.
He was proclaimed dead on arrival at the Barotac Viejo District Hospital due to head injuries.
Wounded, on the other hand, were the tricycle’s two passengers identified as Gong Wan Sen, 21, a Chinese businessman and is temporarily residing at Banate, Iloilo and Rodson Dadivas, 20, of Brgy. Bacabac, Sara.
The Chinese sustained injuries on his face while Dadivas suffered fractured leg.
Dadivas claimed that their tricycle was speeding very fast when it collided with a white Isuzu Trooper, which also ran at high-speed.
Banate Police Station commander Senior Insp. Herbert Ballego said that the tricycle was traversing towards the Banate town proper while the Isuzu Trooper, driven by a certain Rizalo Buenvenida, 56, of Zone 1, Estancia, was going towards Barotac Viejo town.
Due to the impact of the incident, the tricycle’s side car was disengaged from the motorcycle.
On the other hand, the Isuzu Trooper had a wreck on the front side.
After the incident, Buenvenida voluntarily surrendered to police authorities.
There are reports, though, that Buenvenida had Rene Cordero, mayoralty candidate of Estancia town, as passenger when the incident happened.
However, the driver denied this.
When a check was made, the vehicle was not registered under Cordero’s name but under Mayor Matt Palabrica of Bingawan, Iloilo.
However, it was already sold to Cordero’s running mate, Estancia Vice Mayor Butching Aclaro.
