Juvies jam for Jamora
At the start of the campaign period, a group of youth volunteers unveiled a unique campaign strategy – the Jamora jam, a vigorous song and dance number promoting the candidacy of mayoralty bet Larry Jamora.
First performed before a gathering of business leaders supporting Jamora and, later that evening, at Smallville, the street dance choreography to the tune of a Jamora for mayor jingle became such a big hit it became part of Jamora’s rallies and caucuses.
But, being innovative, imaginative, and overly active, the youth volunteers also took the Jamora jam to various public places – the malls, the markets, the plazas, and even Plazoleta Gay, entertaining the public and showing that a political campaign can be very constructive and edifying. Not only that, the positive energy generated by the upbeat campaign strategy has also attracted other youth groups to volunteers for Jamora – they now number in the thousands.
The city’s youth, being peer and group oriented, have made campaigning for Jamora a vocation this summer of May 2010 rather than engaging in other juvenile pursuits. They are stumping and stomping all over the city in large groups wearing green – Jamora’s campaign colors.
The ‘juvie jam’ for Jamora reaches its crescendo today (May 5) at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol. Thousands of the city’s youth will gather this evening to participate in a song and dance concert for Jamora. It will be a precedent setting, trail-blazing event – a political rally that no other camp or candidate in Iloilo can muster.
The youth were attracted to Jamora’s candidacy largely because of his evident capability and well conceived vision for the city.
