62nd Anniversary of Sumakwelan on

Sumakwelan Iloilo. an association of Hiligaynon writers in Iloilo, conducted Year 2010 Binalaybay and Malip-ot Nga Sugilanon held at the River Queen Hotel, Bonifacio Drive, this city Feb. 27. The deliberation of the Binalaybay contest started at 9 a.m. and at the same time the short story writing in Hiligaynon was also conducted in the adjoining space of the hotel.
Deliberation of the Binalaybay contest lasted for 30 minutes for each contestant. There were seven contestants, namely, Frank C. Bobit of the Jalandoni Memorial High School; Alma Alimania of Mandurriao National High School; Lyn Vic G. Atong, Mandurriao National High School; Angelie T. Sayno of Ramon Avanceña National High School; Angelo Lee, Ramon Avanceñ National High School; Daisbel Balsomo and Ferdinand P. Cabales both of Iloilo City National High School Molo, Iloilo City. Members of the Board of Judges were Ric Grocen and Mariano Gogil, Jr. and the chief judge was Fernando S. Junsan, Binalaybay King of Iloilo.
In the short story contest, there were seven participants, namely, Annie Lyn Jamora of Jalandoni Memorial National High School, Viola Roy and Ana Alimania both of Mandurriao National High School, Adrianne E. Albesa and Justin Wen Cañete both of the Iloilo City National High School, Molo, Iloilo City; Florence Matthew Besares and Reyona Cordova of Ramon Avanceña National High School. The contest for short story writing was held at the Social Hall of the Iloilo National High School in La Paz last February 13 and the Board of Judges composed of Malou Defante Gibraltar, chairman, Crisostomo Balairos and Faustino Ramos interviewed the writers last February 27 to confirm that the short stories were their own authorship. Results of the contests will be known on Sunday afternoon, March 7 during the 62nd Anniversary of Sumakwelan, Oathtaking and Award of Prizes to winners of Hiligaynon Short Story and Binalaybay contests. Retired MTC Judge Nilo Pamonag is the incumbent president while Cris Balairos, Ma. Luisa Defante Gibraltar, Dr. Rodolfo P. Gumabong and Rodrigo Ponte Sr. members of board of trustees. Crisostomo B. Balairos, Vice Pres., Maria Luisa D. Gibraltar, Secretary; Ricardo T. Grocen, Asst. Sec., Rodrigo P. Ponte Sr., Auditor; Fernando S. Junsan, Business Manager; Jay D. Balnig, Press Relations Officer and Atty. Agustin Misola, Consultant. Atty. Leo S. Sombiro, prominent law practitioner in Iloilo City is the guest of honor.
