‘Papa Isio’ historical marker unveiled in Isabela
National Historical Institute (NHI) Chairman Ambeth R. Ocampo and Mayor Renato Malabor led the unveiling of Dionisio Magbuelas “Papa Isio” historical marker located at the public plaza of the Municipality of Isabela, Friday.
Chairman Ocampo and NHI Executive Dir. Ludovico Badoy signed the Certificate of Transfer of the marker to the municipality, represented by Isabela Mayor Renato Malabor and SB Member Barry John Parcon. The signing was witnessed by Provincial Planning & Development Office OIC Marlin P. Sanogal, Negros Occ. Historical Council Chairman Roque Hofilena and SB Member Milagros Belzunce.
Papa Isio, who fought both the Spaniards and American colonizers, made the town of Isabela as the center of his operations. The marker states “ Papa Isio was known to be a leader in Negros, organized a group in Isabela fighting for freedom from the Spanish colonizers in 1896. He became the military chief of the Municipality of La Castellana under the Cantonal Government of Negros in November 1898. He also fought the American colonizers in 1899-1907, surrendered on August 6, 1907, and died at the Manila Bilibid Prison in 1911”.
Also present during the activity were Provincial Information Office OIC Karen R. Dinsay, Isabela ABC President Henry Foscablo, NHI staff, and Isab ela municipal employees and teachers. (Capitol News)
