One truck load of copper intercepted in Pontevedra
ROXAS CITY – One truck load of copper with gold approximately about 6 - 7 cubic meters which is believed to have come from illegal mining in Maayon was intercepted by elements of Pontevedra Police Station.
Inspector Rommel Entereso, police chief of Pontevedra police station, said that the mineral was said to be extracted from illegal mining in Barangay Canapian, Maayon, Capiz.
He said that the truck was allegedly owned by Nilo Diaz of Maayon while the truck is still impounded at the Pontevedra police station pending investigation.
The police chief said copper was put inside the sacks of cement and covered by soil (buga) as it appeared that it was ordinary soil when it passed at Pontevedra, Capiz
Engr. Edgar Agana of the Bureau of Mines said that the transport of the truck load of copper was illegal.
The said alleged copper will be subjected for testing and investigation to determine who are behind the illegal mining in Maayon.
