No new A(H1N1) cases in Western Visayas
The Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) of the Center for Health Development-Department of Health (DOH) has not recorded any new case of A(H1N1) in the region since September this year.
Nurse Coordinator Christina de Guzman said as of September 19, 2009, the A(H1N1) cases remained at 66 cases. The figure covers from May 20 to September 19 or the 37th monitoring week. From September 19 until yesterday, there are no new recorded cases of A(H1N1).
In the September 19 statistics, there were 150 cases of under observation and two new cases under observation. There were also 66 positive laboratory results of A(H1N1) and 65 with negative laboratory results. There were also 19 pending results.
De Guzman said it is a welcome development in terms of the influenza disease. However, she encouraged the people to continue the “hygienic practices” to prevent the transmission of the influenza virus.
The hygienic practices and “environmental sanitation” should be practiced at all times. People should not be lackadaisical when it comes to health practice, said De Guzman.
People should stop their cough and sneezing manners. We should always cover our mouths whenever we cough or sneeze especially in public places, she said.
Hand washing should be an automatic behavior of each individual in preventing the transmission of the virus. We should never get tired of doing the right health practice, said De Guzman.
