Capiz ready to host IP Festival Oct. 2-6
ROXAS CITY – Capiz government under the stewardship of Gov. Victor Tanco is ready to host the Indigenous Peoples (IP) Festival 2009 slated October 2-6 at the Villareal Stadium here.
Mr. Al Tesoro, provincial tourism officer, said that the preparation for the festival which started since last year are all in place.
Tesoro, said they expect visitors from other places to witness the said festival.
The said festival, Tesoro said, is to uplift the well being of indigenous peoples in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), provincial government and all municipalities of Capiz province.
Dubbed as Dungog IP Festival, Tesoro said that provincial government will shell out some P2.1 million with the counterpart of NCCA in the amount of P6 million or a total of P8.1 million to cater all expenses of IPs from all over the country who will join the festival and the entire affair.
NCCA Commissioner Domingo Baquilan of the province of Kalinga said that this is the 3rd time the NCCA is holding its festival, the first one was held in Davao City in 2007, the second in Isabela in 2008.
The 5-day schedule of events are as follows: October 2 (day 1), Dungog: IP Festival 2009 welcome ceremonies,Tagbuanay: Interactive demonstrations in IP houses and their way of living; Hinun-anon 1: Forum on eco-cultural tourism and heritage preservation; Pasundayag 1 (cultural performances); Pasundayag II (cultural performace-outreach); and fireworks display;
On October 3 (day 2), Tagbuanay: Interactive demonstrations in IP house and their way of living; Palumbaanay (traditional game exhibition); Hinun-anon (forum on cultural education and livelihood); Pasundayag III (cultural performances); Pandayan (interactive workshops-crafts/performing arts); Pasundayag IV (cultural performances-outreach); Pasundayag V (cultural performances); and Balangaw: Showcase of Visayan performing arts.
On October 4 (day 3) Tagbuanay; Pasundayag VI; Pasundayag VII; On October 5 (day 4) Tagbuanay; EAHA (Interactive workshops-cooking demo); Hinun-anon III forum on cultural diversity; pasundayag VIII; Pandayan; Pasundayag IX and hinugyaw (solidarity night) and on October 6 (day 5) Tagbuanay and Padayon (closing program).
