Ombudsman-CPUs MOA signing July 31 in Bacolod City
A historic event unfolds on July 31 in Bacolod City, when five Corruption Prevention Units (CPUs) in Negros Occidental will sign the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Ombudsman-Visayas headed by Deputy Ombudsman Pelagio S. Apostol. The five CPUs, namely, Social Action Centers of San Carlos City, Kabankalan City and Bacolod City, Armed Forces of the Philippines retirees and Justice and Mercy Movement composed of Pastors and Professors of West Negros University, Bacolod City, will sign their respective MOAs.
Like CPUs in other parts of the country, Negros Occidental CPUs will help Ombudsman track down illegal transactions in government such as illegal purchase of supplies, machines and materials without public bidding, improper use of government vehicles found in entertainment places, gambling dens, hotels, beaches, grocery stores, schools, etc. during unholy hours, night time and during holidays and Sundays.
CPUs will also help people with valid transaction with government and to avoid unnecessary delay in the processing of papers and following up urgent matters. Through active participation and involvement of CPUs in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental inept involvement of government officials and employees, improvement of public services and prompt delivery of results expected by clients of the government. No doubt, the CPUs will help the graft body in minimizing if not completely eradicate malfeasance in government.
Deputy Ombudsman Apostol will reemphasize to partners to fight graft and corruption in all levels of society particularly the government controlled and owned corporations the necessity of safeguarding the money of the people.
During the July 10, 2009 symposium on Reformation and Good Governance held at the West Negros University, Ms. Evangeline Nuñal, Ombudsman Associate Graft Investigation Officer III, discussed with students, professors, lawyers, newsmen and evangelical ministers, the functions of the Office of the Ombudsman. Nuñal also rallied to the student leaders in the various colleges and universities in Negros Occidental to form themselves into a potent Junior Graftwatch Unit (JGU) so that they can also awaken the conscience of government officials and employees against dipping their hands in the coffers of the government at the expense of hungry and poor Filipinos. Nuñal pointed out that the youth can help save the future generation of young people by dumping to the garbage cans wanton graft and corruption in the country in the present generation. All present in the said symposium pledged their support to the honest campaign of Ombudsman-Visayas Region VI in reporting anomalies in the public service.
