PGMA to arrive in Bacolod for RDC awarding rites
BACOLOD CITY -- Antique Governor Salvacion Perez, who also sits as chairperson of the Regional Development Council (RDC) confirmed the arrival of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in Bacolod City on May 14.
Perez who was in Bacolod last night said that Arroyo will arrive in the afternoon for the awarding of the winners of the Best Public Practices in Western Visayas sponsored by the RDC.
“Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia will host the awarding rites probably at the Bacolod City Government Center,” she said.
This is already the third year of the activity as practiced by RDC - Western Visayas.
The province of Negros Occidental, and San Carlos and Talisay cities are the top three winners of the RDC VI Best Public Sector Projects Award this year.
Negros Occidental won the Computerized RPTA System Project, San Carlos City – Eco-Center Project and Talisay City – Comprehensive Health Development Program, in the provincial/city government units’ category.
The top three winners for the municipal government units’ category are Nabas, Aklan that won the P. D. Health Nutrition Development Program, Sebaste, Antique – Integrated Health Care Program, and Sta. Barbara, Iloilo – Ecological Solid Waste Management Program.
The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology VI, Department of Health 6 and Land Transportation Office VI were the top three winners in the regional line agencies category, while the Aklan State University, Capiz State University and U.P. in the Visayas were the top three winners in the state universities and colleges’ category.
Perez thanked the full support of the Bacoleños through Mayor Evelio Leonardia as well the people of Negros Occidental for their warm welcome to RDC - VI.
“As a tribute to Mayor Leonardia’s leadership, that’s why we decided to put it in Bacolod, which we known since then as a multi-awarded city,” the chairperson added.
Vice-Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson on the other hand said there was no communication yet coming from the Office of the President in line with said visit.
On May 11 and 12, Arroyo will be arriving to Cebu for the Climate Change Summit. The city government according to Atty. Vicente Petierre III, secretary-to-the-mayor, will send representatives to the event.
