Comelec delivers knock-out win for Centena

Five Commissioners and the Chairman of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) now upheld an earlier ruling declaring a defeated Iloilo town vice mayor as the real winner.

As such, the Resolution made En Banc, orders the assumption into office of Alex Centena as the rightful vice mayor of Calinog, Iloilo and not the current official, Salvador Divinagracia Jr.

US medical mission to continue despite NPA threat

US troops will continue with their civic mission in Capiz despite the threat posed by the New People’s Army.

“There’s no problem with the medical mission,” Capt. Renante Besa, 3rd Infantry Divison information officer, told The News Today yesterday, as he downplayed the order of the Communist Party of the Philippines for the NPA to conduct offensives against Balance Piston 09-1 in Jamindan, Capiz.

WV 2nd largest rice producing region in the country

With a production of 2,117, 598 metric tons (mt), Western Visayas ranked second among the 16 regions on palay production for calendar year 2008. Central Luzon top the rice producing regions with a production of 3,043,956 mt, Cagayan Valley ranked 3rd with a production of 2,094,373 mt, Ilocos region ranked 4th – 1,676,980 mt and SOCCSKSARGEN ranked 5th with a production of 1,234,868 mt in 2008.
