Having a Say on WVSU'-CMC's VMGO
Being an alumna of the West Visayas State University, College of Mass Communications, it is with much regard to know that alumni members are given the chance to review the Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives (VMGO) of our college.
The College of Mass Communications started as a Division of Mass Communications of the School of Arts and Sciences in June 1980 with an initial batch of 21 students enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts program, major in Mass Communications.
Upon conversion of the West Visayas State College into a University by virtue of PD No. 2019 on January 27, 1986, the Division of Mass Communications became the Department of Mass Communications under the College of Arts and Sciences. It became the Institute of Mass Communications on October 27, 1993 and started as a degree-granting unit headed by Dr. Delia P. Divinagracia and later by Dr. Luis A. Abioda. Subsequently, it became the College of Mass Communications on January 9, 2000. The first College dean was Dr. Yolanda B. Janay.
Aside from its original degree program which is Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications with majors in Broadcasting, Development Communication, and Journalism, two new degree programs were added in Academic Year (A.Y.) 1998-1999, namely: Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and Bachelor of Science in Information Management. With the separation of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT), and Bachelor of Science in Information Management (BSIM) programs and the creation of Institute of Information and Communication Technology (IICT) in June 2002, three new programs were offered in the College starting first semester of A.Y. 2003-2004 by virtue of BOR Resolution No. 94, S. 2002, namely: Bachelor of Broadcasting, Bachelor of Science in Development Communication and Bachelor of Journalism. In June 2005, the College opened its Graduate School of Communication offering Master in Mass Communication.
At present, the College is situated in the main campus of the University, left wing of the University Cultural Center. Student population is approximately 500.
The current dean is Prof. Ricky G. Abalena III.
Indeed, taking part by reviewing an institution's VMGO where one considers home is something which makes the alumni feels most valuable.
Congratulations to Mr. and Miss WVSU Jude Ryan Seares and Ms. Winlove Dupit of the College of Mass Communications. We scored another first.
