Flyover construction to begin next month
BACOLOD CITY -- Lone District Representative Monico O. Puentevella confirmed yesterday that the construction of the flyover at the junction of Magsaysay-Araneta streets will commence on March. Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) decided to have the flyover along Magsaysay-Araneta junction instead of the original plan to have it at Lacson Northdrive junction after business groups along Lacson St. opposed the project.
DPWH Executive Director Emil Sadain was in the city on Friday to personally evaluate the new site and to make consultations with stakeholders.
Another flyover is eyed along Lacson-Circumferential Road junction.
Puentevella said a French contractor will undertake the construction of the flyover.
He hopes that the two flyovers will be completed before the end of his term.
Meanwhile, Mayor Evelio Leonardia welcomed the decision to transfer the proposed flyover to Magsaysay-Araneta and Lacson-Circumferential Road junctions.
Leonardia believes that the flyover projects will help solve the traffic problem in the city.
