Del Rosario hatches another LP wing?
ROXAS CITY – Is Capiz 1st District Congressman Antonio del Rosaro hatching another Liberal Party (LP) wing against City Mayor Vicente Bermejo?
This is the question brewing in the minds of political observers here amid the ensuing conflict between the two officials.
Del Rosario and Bermejo are high ranking officials of the LP with Sen. Mar Roxas who is presently the president.
A reliable source told The News Today (TNT) that Del Rosario is now conquering the bailiwick of Bermejo by gaining the support of 22 villages chiefs out of the 42 barangays in Panay, Capiz. Panay town is considered Bermejo's bailiwick as he had served as mayor for three terms in this town.
Last week, a source said that the solon had successfully met with 22 village chiefs as they pledged to support Nene Asis, brother of the late Panay Mayor Verly Asis, for his mayorship in 2010 election.
Asis will run against incumbent Mayor Dante Bermejo in 2010. Bermejo is in the USA for official travel as of press time.
However, a village chief, who requested anonymity, denied pledging support to Asis' candidacy against Bermejo. He clarified that they attended the solon's meeting with the clearance from Vice Gov. Felipe Barredo and the mayor.
The same source also said that Del Rosario is gaining the support of some oppositions from Maayon, Pontevedra, Pilar, President Roxas and Panitan for Sen. Mar Roxas' presidential bid in the 2010 national election.
Sources added that in Roxas City, Del Rosario will be fielding city councilors against the incumbent who are also members of the LP with Bermejo wing in the next election.
But the source also said that Del Rosario will not field Bermejo's opponent in the next election if the latter also will not put up a candidate against him.
It was learned that Bermejo has separately endorsed and supported his own barangay captains in the recent barangay election even without the confirmation of Del Rosario as LP stalwart.
Bermejo claimed that out of the 47 village chiefs, 42 are loyal to him.
Earlier, a source told TNT that Sen. Roxas is trying to patch up things between the two warring LP officials.
