Antique PNP launches 'Scubasurero' to protect fragile coral reefs
SAN JOSE, Antique – Pursuant to the PNP's national campaign in the protection of the environment and enforcement of environmental laws over provincial territorial waters like sea and rivers to include laws and ordinances that have been set forth to preserve, protect and enhance the environment and natural resources, the Antique Police Provincial Office will launch "Implan Scubasurero" starting with a coastal clean-up of the PC beach.
"This is in line with the impact project/campaign of the Chief PNP, Director General Jesus A. Versoza, who is driven by the pivotal role of law enforcers in the preservation and protection of the environment and natural resources as embodied in the PNP Master Plan Sang-Yaman. This activity aims to rally all PNP personnel who are not just protectors of the people but also of the environment as well, through clean-up drives and information and education campaigns with the end view of increasing public awareness on water waste issues and environmental preservation with the active support and participation of LGUs, NGOs, private sectors and other stakeholders," Senior Supt. Ren T. Darroca, Antique Police Director said.
He added that ideally, participating PNP personnel should be wearing scuba suits while conducting underwater cleaning of coral reefs and seafloor but due to the lack of available equipment and as sourcing out for other concerned organizations for the said capability is being undertaken, we will commence with a coastal clean-up from our very own backyard, the scenic PC beach at Bugante Point and from there, replicate and bring the activity to other coastal municipalities as well as to the mighty rivers and streams of upland municipalities.
"Antique is one of the provinces in the country blessed with significantly rich natural resources wherein almost all kinds of minerals, metals, precious stones, animal species, plants and trees can be found. However, these resources had been exploited and abused and the continuing degradation of the remaining natural resources has reached critical proportions due to illegal and destructive methods for business or personal motives which are further deteriorating due to exacerbating pollution brought about by rapid urban growth and industrialization, and your Mamang Pulis and Aleng Pulis, shall protect the lives and property and ensure public safety thru a responsive and effective protection, conservation and development of our environment and natural resources, in coordination with and in direct support of all concerned government agencies and stakeholders" Darroca ended.
