Medical team conducts medical mission for Antiqueños
SAN JOSE, Antique -- Thirty-one doctors from the Philippine Urulogist Residents Association in Manila arrived here yesterday morning to conduct a Free Urological Mission to Antiqueños with kidney problems, prostate, hernia, etc.
The medical mission being conducted at the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital is until today August 8, 2008.
The team is headed by Dr. Egidio Elio, an Antiqueño based in St. Luke’s Medical Center in Manila. He started the Tabang Antique 2002 and organized the Antique Medical Missions Incorporated composed of Antiqueño specialists in Manila which aims to help poor Antiqueños.
Their group has conducted cataract operations, urological missions, and surgical missions in previous years.
Dr. Elio said the province is their team's priority since many families cannot afford to seek medical operations. This is also an opportunity for them to be treated without any fee.
Michael Orcia, a 10 year old son of Jose Orcia from Larioja, Patnongon, Antique is suffering from hernia. He is usually teased by his classmates and friends because of his condition. But thanks to Tabang Antique, Michael will live a normal life and he will never be teased by his friends again.
Dr. Ric Noel Naciongayo, hospital chief of Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital expressed his thanks to the medical team who gave their time and effort to help the patients.
The team will also conduct free circumcision today August 8 at 1 pm.
