Asthmatics gather at WVCST gym Aug. 12
Asthma Educational Club members, officers, nurses, doctors and medical representatives will troop to the Western Visayas College of Science & Technology (WVCST) gym on Tuesday, August 12, to commemorate the 13th year glorious celebration of the organization. Through God's abundant grace and mercy and with the cooperation of everybody, the realization and vision of service to Filipino asthmatics in Region VI has been a success, according to Dr. Christopher Rey G. De Guzman, Asthma-Allergy specialist, in an interview with the media the other day.
Dr. De Guzman said the Asthma Educational Club is the only accredited club for education by the National Asthma Movement in Western Visayas. He added that in his own little way, the club contributed to the upliftment of the quality of life of asthmatics. Dr. De Guzman said that in the past, people are thankful to God for making the club as the Dept. of Health's "Most Innovative Asthma Educational Club."
This year's celebration at the WVCST gym in La Paz this city, Dr. De Guzman foresees the increase of public awareness and understanding of asthma. There will be an asthma fair with different drug companies giving out educational brochures, leaflets and other information materials as well as samples. Asthma attacks should not be ignored by asthmatic persons as the attack may be mild, severe or even life threatening. Doctors recommend to start treatment early. Mild attacks can be treated at home if one is prepared. Shortness of breath, cough, wheezing and tightness of chest are some of the early signs of an asthma attack. Asthma triggers may include inhaled allergens like pollens and house dust mites in beds and pillows; environmental irritants like cigarette smoke, strong smells and sprays; animals with fur, common cold (sipon at ubo) or weather. Identify your own trigger and avoid these. Not everyone has the same trigger. Always ask your doctor about your asthma action plan or how one can prepare for asthma attacks by having reliever medications at home or with you at all times when you're out of the house. Always see your doctor to be safe.
Dr. Luis M. Sorolla, WVCST President, will welcome all participants. Mrs. Wilsonia C. Palomero, WVMC AEC President, will give the opening remarks. Dr. Christopher Rey G. de Guzman will be the keynote speaker while Dr. Conchristine Dignomo will introduce him. Chris John David de Guzman, a songfest rising star, will render a special number, Mrs. Lilia Sotero will close the celebration with a prayer as Dr. Fria Manajero inviting all asthmatic non-asthmatic persons to join in the celebration as God heals sicknesses even up to now.
