AFP bares planned attack on 13 WV cellsites
Military intelligence units and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) here are bracing for planned attacks on 13 towers or cellsites of two major cellular phone companies.
This, after similar incidents rocked the Bicol region blamed on communist terrorists New People's Army (NPA).
Located in Iloilo and Antique towns, the targeted cellsites were disclosed by the AFP following validated information from civilian tipsters.
Captain Lowen Gil Marquez, commanding officer of the AFP's 3rd Civil Relations Group confirmed the report to The News Today (TNT).
Marquez identified the cellsite areas as those located in the first district towns of Tubungan and San Joaquin, Iloilo and San Miguel in the Second District. Also reportedly included in the target-list is in the town of Lambunao and municipalities of Tapaz and Dumarao, Province of Capiz.
In Antique, cellsites in San Remegio, Valderama and Ibajay are also in danger of a planned sabotage alongside the towns of Murcia and Calatrava in the Province of Negros Occidental.
"We are closely monitoring activities and movements in these target-areas," Captain Marquez said. "Implementation in Panay Island has been ordered through Concha Araneta while in Negros it was through Frank Fernandez."
