DOH 6 bares restoration/rehab estimates for typhoon-damaged health facilities
The Department of Health in Region VI reported that the estimated cost for restoration/rehabilitation of DOH-retained hospital and CHD Western Visayas health facilities and infrastructures damaged by typhoon Frank amounted to P7,350,000.00.
For local government units' hospitals in the provinces of Iloilo, Aklan, Antique and Capiz, the estimated cost for restoration/rehabilitation is P257,253,000.00, and P1,150,000.00 for Rural Health Units and Barangay Health units in said provinces.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque who was here on Tuesday to attend the NDCC/Cabinet meeting with President Arroyo, visited the DOH-CHD Western Visayas Operation Center and expressed his appreciation for the response, and health services extended to the victims of typhoon Frank.
The DOH 6 reported that they distributed/issued medicines and supplies to the different local government units; continued surveillance activities; distributed health advisories to tri-media outlets; conducted on site visits to the different evacuation centers and did advocacy on sanitation and food and water borne diseases; on-going medical missions in Iloilo City by the DOH-CHD WV Medical Assistance team.
The report of the Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit of the DOH-CHD Western Visayas showed that from June 22-29, 2008, the most common cause of consultations are injuries and respiratory illnesses. Acute dermatitis are increasing due to exposure to mud and floodwater. (PIA/T.Villavert)
