Daughter of OFW gets educational support from OWWA
A daughter of an overseas Filipino worker who died of brain tumor while working in Taiwan is now assured of educational support until she completes a college degree through the "Tulong Aral" program of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
OWWA officer-in-charge for Western Visayas James Mendiola said his office has already released USD 100 to Leila Kay Toledo of Bo. Obrero here.
Leila Kay, seven-year-old, is one of the two children of Ritchel Toledo, a single mother who used to work in Taiwan.
Mendiola said Leila Kay is an incoming Grade I student and OWWA is committed to support her until she completes a college degree provided that she meets the grade requirement set by the agency.
He added that Leila's brother, four-year old Nicodemes, will also avail of the program once he enters school.
The two orphans were presented to Labor and Employment Secretary Marianito Roque during the latter's recent visit in Iloilo City.
Roque gave the family P20,000 as financial support and assured the inclusion of Leila Kay and Nicodemes to the Tulong Aral program. (PNA)
