NSO to conduct survey of informal sector
The National Statistics Office (NSO) in collaboration with United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP) will conduct the first nationwide survey of informal sector starting April 8, 2008.
Dubbed as the 2008 Informal Sector Survey (ISS), it aims at putting in place a system of 2-step surveys related to the evaluation and the follow up of employment, informal jobs and informal sector.
Iloilo Provincial Statistician Nelida Amolar said the 2008 ISS will be conducted until April 30. It will cover all economic activities of the identified Informal Sectors.
"Again, we would like to ask the cooperation and support of all concerned in this undertaking as the survey covers a nationwide sample of about 7,500 own account workers," said Amolar.
Likewise, Amolar cited the importance of the accurate facts and figures that will be given by the respondents.
"The success of the survey mostly depends on the quality of data which will be collected on the field," she added.
The 2008 ISS is divided into two phases. The first phase is designed to provide data for estimating employment in informal sector enterprises and provide data for estimating informal employment while the second phase is designed to obtain data for estimating the contribution of informal sector enterprises to total Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The ISS being a rider to the quarterly Labor Force Survey of the NSO will use a subsample of the NSO's 2003 Mastersample. (PIA)
