BSP Iloilo Council holds 57th Annual Council Meeting

The Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) Iloilo (Confesor) Council held its 57th Annual Council Meeting last Friday, February 29, in the municipality of Bingawan, Iloilo with the theme "One World, One Promise".
The meeting held at the municipal covered gym gathered members of the Council Executive Board headed by Leganes mayor Adolfo E. Jaen, Area Chairmen, District/Municipal Scouting Committee Chairmen, District Commissioners, Secondary School Principals, District Scouting Coordinators and Outfit Advisors.
About 400 scouts and scouters from the city and province of Iloilo also attended the meeting. BSP Secretary General Jose Rizal Pangilinan served as keynote speaker in lieu of BSP National President Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay who failed to arrive due to pressing matters in Metro Manila. Pangilinan was accompanied by Mr. Teczon, Scout Executive Makati City Council, and party.

Among the local officials who graced the affair were Board Member Arthur Defensor Jr., Iloilo Police Provincial Office director Senior Supt. Ricardo De La Paz, and Lt. Libre of Phil. Army.
Part of the meeting was the election of four regular members of the Council Executive Board, namely, Mayor Jaen, former Mayor Jesus Decolongon, retired Gen. Ernesto Canong and Dr. Edgar Jimena.
Commissioner for Public Relations Rexfel Trivilegio said the affair was very successful because of the support of the accommodating host Bingawan Mayor Matt Palabrica, Vice Mayor Mark Palabrica and the members of the Sangguniang Bayan.
Trivilegio added the teaching force of the Department of Education, municipal employees, barangay tanods and members of the Rover Scouts of the District of Bingawan also helped made the affair successful.
Trivilegio noted that the municipality of Bingawan, then under Mayor Zafiro Palabrica, father of the present mayor, also hosted the the annual council meeting ten years ago.
The municipality of Bingawan is always number one all over the province in terms of membership holding the title Most Outstanding District for several years.
Trivilegio said, also tackled during the meeting was the initial preparations for the upcoming Provincial Jamboree to be held in Brgy. Cabano, San Lorenzo, Guimaras sometime in September and the Border Jamboree in November this year.
Records show that as of December 2007 there are a total of 41,528 scouts and scouters under the Iloilo (Confesor) Council.
