PRO 6 girds for 2007 Barangay, SK poll duties
Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 Director Chief Supt. Wilfredo V. Dulay, Sr. recently convened all field commanders for a conference on the security preparations for the upcoming 2007 Barangay and SK Elections.
The conference tackled the implementation of pro-active measures in 28 Election Areas of Concern and 163 Election Areas of Immediate Concern. Based on the validation of Regional Intelligence Division (RID), the presence of Communist Terrorists (CTs) caused the classification of several barangays as areas of concern. The election-related violent incidents in the previous elections are also part of the parameters for the Watchlist of Areas this election.
"Initially, we listed 191 barangays," Dulay said adding that "the number would either lower or increase depending on the situation update as election day comes closer."
PRO 6 also considered deploying augmentation personnel to depleted police stations. As in the past election, Dulay admitted the lack of PNP personnel to render election duties despite the 10-90 deployment schemes being implemented. "We will mobilize our tanods," Dulay explained on how to mitigate the problem.
The Top Cop also reiterated the strict implementation of Comelec Gun Ban which took effect in September 29, 2007.
To recall, PRO 6 delivered the highest recovery and confiscation of firearms and explosives last May 2007 National and Local Election.
"There will be series of conferences to update the security measures undertaken by each unit", Dulay said adding that "we will coordinate also with other stakeholders to ensure an honest, orderly and peaceful elections." (RPIO PRO6)
