Barangay kagawad arrested for shabu
A barangay kagawad in Jaro district here was arrested for yielding the highly prohibited drugs or shabu in his control and possession.
Barely noontime last Friday, the combined operatives of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and Jaro Police Precinct pounced on the residence of barangay kagawad Edranel Umadhay in Brgy. M.H. del Pilar, Jaro district, Iloilo City.
Narcotics agents searched the house and recovered the illegal drugs that also led to the suspect's outright arrest.
Seized during the raid were two elongated plastic sachets and two small plastic sachets of suspected shabu, an undetermined cash believed to be proceeds from illegal drugs and a magazine of .45 caliber pistol containing live ammos.
The raid was carried out on the strength of a search warrant issued by Hon. Judge Roger Patricio of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 38, 6th Judicial Region here.
According to S/Supt. Roybel Sanchez, who took the helm of PDEA as regional director office based in Camp Delgado, the subject person has been placed under surveillance for quite sometime based on information that he was into illegal drug trade in their barangay.
The suspect, however, denied owning the hot stuff and involvement in the illicit drug business.
The suspect is presently detained at the lock-up cell of Jaro PNP for the proper filing of criminal case in violating certain provisions of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act.
