San Jose, Antique -- A decade long proposed project will finally see fruition with the approval of the construction of a P3 million Fish Port in the shorelines of Barangay 4, San Jose de Buenavista.
No less than the Operations Officer and Engineering staff of the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) paid an official visit to the town mayor Rony L. Molina bringing the good news.
To confirm project implementation, the PFDA officials and staff updated their data which includes the list of possible beneficiaries of the fishport facility and its economic impact to the community.
Mayor Molina assisted by Engr. Edgar I. Tanchuan, Municipal Engineer and Mr. Conrado V. Petinglay, Jr., Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator, respectively proceeded to the project site with the PFDA engineers namely Engrs. Jose Ephream M. Fernandez, Dante A. Tandoy, Fortunato C. Cosejo and Melvin Ralang for an ocular inspection coupled with lengthy discussion. PFDA officers were convinced that the Municipality of San Jose de Buenavista is in dire need of this project.
Upon completion of the physical structure, the PFDA will supplement the LGU with management trainings for the operation facility to the Municipal Government of San Jose de Buenavista, Antique.
Mayor Molina said that the project soon to be realized would be a big boost to the trade and industry of the town and specifically for additional livelihood opportunities to the marginal fisherfolks as well as motorized banca operators in the shorelines of the town. "Imagine, a Bagsakan Center para sa isda nga nadakup kang mangingisda." This will help stabilize our selling price of fish as a commodity for the consumers.
Futhermore, the Mayor added that in as much as this will be another source of revenue generation, fees and charges thereto should have the legislative action of our Sangguniang Bayan. The facility once operational will be part of the Municipal Economic Enterprise Office of the town.
