Unlike his usual State of the Province Address (Sopa) where Governor Niel Tupas highlights the achievements of his administration, yesterday's Sopa focused on the assault of the Capitol by hundreds of policemen last Wednesday, January 17, 2007.

Provincial and concurrent City Election Officer Atty. Elizabeth Doronila said she has yet to receive official communication from Commission on Elections (Comelec) national office declaring Iloilo province as election "hotspot."

All systems go for Dinagyang 2007

It's all systems go for this year's Dinagyang Festival.

Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. (IDFI) Executive Director Ben Jimena said financial contributions for the festivities keep on coming.

He said the foundation has collected and on the process of collecting the P10 million pledges.

With an deeply-embedded belief that God has assured special children of a place in heaven because of their child-like innocence, Iloilo City councilor Merci Drilon-Garcia headed a post-Christmas party and gift-giving activity for the special children of the "Tuloy Aral Walang Sagabal" or TAWAG program, a pre-school education program administered by the CSWD office for the special children. The yearly event was held at Brgy. North Baluarte Day Care Center last January 6, 2007.

The Dinagyang Through The Years Exhibit successfully opened at the 3rd Floor Events Center, 4 p.m. last January 18, 2007.

The opening, headed by Vice Mayor Guillermo de la Llana together with Iloilo City Tourism Officer Ben Jimena along with other guests from the public and private sectors, was followed by the opening of the Ms. Dinagyang Photo Exhibit at the Upper Ground Floor that led the guests to the Lower Ground Floor Atrium for the ladies' fashion show in their dinagyang headress.
