A day after a new governor was sworn into office, dismissed Gov. Niel Tupas Sr. and two members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan are asking the Court of Appeals (CA) to prevent the implementation of their orders of dismissal.

'Measly' P20T, P65T deals caused dismissal of Tupas, 2 allies

It was not the questioned construction of the multi-million (at least P420 million as of last count) Capitol building nor the P6.2 billion new Iloilo airport. It was not even the P70 million new Iloilo Rehabilitation Center (IRC) or millions more in disallowed meals, bills and purchases but the "measly" P20,000 and P65,000 that did it for dismissed governor Niel Tupas and top allies, Board Members Cecilia Capadosa (Second District) and Domingo Oso (Fourth District).

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has decided to discontinue the administration of the national Scholarship Qualifying Examination (NSQE) for the incoming CHED scholars and grantees for the School Year 2007-2008.

Pact for streamlining of business registration inked

The Iloilo City Government has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for the implementation of the Small and Medium Enterprise Development for Sustainable Employment Program (SMEDSEP) that will streamline business registration procedures (SBR) in Iloilo City on 21 December 2006.

In its continued thrust to promote awareness of Western Visayas' Darag native chicken, the Darag IEC--Wesvarrdec participate in the forthcoming Dinagyang 2007. Its delegation, Tribu Darag, will highlight Darag native chicken through this advocacy campaign. Dinagyang is one of the best venues to reintroduce Darag native chicken not only to the people of Region VI and the rest of the Filipinos but to foreigners as well.
