City backtracks on plan to clear USAEU-FFW strike area

The city government would not touch the strike area of the University of San Agustin Employees Union-Federation of Free Workers (USAEU-FFW) located in front of the university contrary to the earlier warning made by City Legal Office (CLO) chief Atty. Edgar Gil.

P22M being readied for San Lorenzo fisherfolk

About P22 million is being readied by the International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund (IOPCF) for the compensation claims of 1,400 fisherfolk in the town of San Lorenzo, Guimaras. The 1,400 fisherfolk is part of the 3,700 fishermen claimants in the island-province after they incurred damages on their livelihood as a result of the Solar 1 oil spill.

A 33 year-old resident of San Miguel, Iloilo jumped to his death yesterday (Tuesday) morning in a dried up dam here.

City bullish on solving traffic problem

Iloilo City will receive a 26,000 US dollars aid from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for its traffic management and development program. The aid will be in form of consultancy and studies from the funding agency.

The distinctive calls of writhed-billed hornbills are coming back into the deep forests of the Madyaas mountain ranges in Panay.

Colorful, playful and noisy, hornbills are among the most conspicuous local birds and were prominent in Filipino folklore.

They once inhabited most large Philippine islands during the Ice Age, with each island having uniquely colored hornbills each believed to be distinct species.
