City's P90M loan for solid waste program gets nod

The Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) has approved the city government's P90 million loan for its Solid Waste Management Program (SWMP) which include the construction of a sanitary landfill and procurement of new equipment for the Calajunan dumpsite in Mandurriao district.

Representative Rolex Suplico of Iloilo's fifth district is wary that the country is on its way to becoming the 'Bombay Republic' because of the growing Indian population.

The opposition congressman noted that Indian nationals, more known as 'Bombays,' are engaged in lending and retail trade. He pointed out that under the laws, only Filipino citizens can engage in lending and retail trade.

Verification is underway if said suspect is also the same con man who operated with two other accomplices in the Province of Guimaras and in Jaro District, Iloilo City about a month ago.

NHA should provide relocation site--Treņas

The city government has no obligation to provide the displaced residents of Purok Mainuswagon, Brgy. Bolilao, Mandurriao district with relocation site. Thus, said City Mayor Jerry Treñas after the National Housing Authority (NHA) reportedly wanted residents in the area, which was recently hit by fire, evicted.

Senator Franklin M. Drilon today allayed the fears of residents in Western Visayas by announcing that the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) has put in place security arrangements at the new airports being built in the provinces of Iloilo and Bacolod in order to prevent recurrence of similar attacks as the bombing on the new airport in Bacolod last month.

After being dormant for three years JCI Iloilo "Ilang Ilang" is back on its feet. Under the leadership of the 2002 LOM President JCI Sen. Rosanna Golez-Ang, the passion and fervor of Ilang Ilang toward the JCI flared up. That year, JCI Iloilo "Ilang Ilang" had won two major awards in the NATCON in Naga City.
