Mass evacuation up in two Guimaras brgys?

Mass evacuation is reportedly underway in at least two barangays in the Province of Guimaras following an Executive Session with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. As such, hundreds of families will be ordered out of their homes with Army soldiers in the island-province said to implement the forced evacuation starting today (Wednesday).

Guimaras health officials looking at possible oil spill-related death

Health officials of Guimaras will look deeper into the death of a two-year-old child to know if it was related to the oil spill.

Efforts to retrieve the vessel is still on the works in order to stop the further spillage of the hazardous oil.

Oil spill impact in tourism, manageable—Durano

Department of Tourism Secretary Ace Durano said the impact caused by the oil spill on the tourism industry of Guimaras is "manageable" since only seven out of the 24 beaches in the island are affected.

Durano did not categorically identify the seven affected beach resorts.

Petron's report identified several barangays in the towns of Nueva Valencia, Sibunag and San Lorenzo as affected by the oil spill.

Petron belies reports on company’s reluctance to give livelihood

Petron Corporation yesterday denied reports they have issued a statement during the joint committee hearing of the Senate and Congress Monday in Manila that they will not give livelihood to the residents of Guimaras towns affected by the oil spill.
