Cuadra guilty of drug charge, ordered to suffer life imprisonment

Western Visayas' most celebrated drug personality was found guilty of drug trafficking charges and sentenced to life imprisonment. Within minutes of his conviction Tuesday, July 25, in a Kalibo Court in the Province of Aklan, he was led straight to the airport and remitted to the National Bilibid Penitentiary in Muntinlupa.

Illegal structures at Iloilo River face demolition

Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Regional Office No. 6 warns proponents of illegal structures in the Iloilo River waterways to stop their activities or else they will face demolition and legal sanctions. This warning is issued in the wake of reports received by the DENR Region VI that some institutions or private persons are again doing a gradual reclamation of the portions of Iloilo River.

Twelve Ilonggo convicted criminals began their stint at the National Bilibid Penitentiary (NBP) in Muntinlupa, the country's 'shelter' for hardened criminals and convicts.

The Antique anti-tuberculosis program dubbed as Public-Private Mix DOTS (Directly-Observed Treatment Short-course) or PPMD won the National Excellence Award with St. Paul's Hospital in Iloilo City and City of Bacolod, Negros Occidental which made Region 6 as best implementor of anti-TB program in the country.

About 45,248 or 22 percent of the 190,000 college enrollees in Western Visayas, are into the Business Education related courses which posted the highest number followed by 38,900 (21%) in Medical related courses, and 27,800 (15%) in Teacher Education.
