No frills, no dubious deals as Cabatuan passes govt audit

The Municipality of Cabatuan stands thus far as amongst Iloilo towns with seemingly negligible findings in an audit conducted by the Commission on Audit (COA).

City Council opens city doors to STL

Small Town Lottery (STL) is now free to enter Iloilo City. The City Council, in a resolution, interposed no objection to the operation of STL which is now under the supervision of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).

In its regular session last Wednesday, 11 councilors voted for the passage of the resolution sponsored by Majority Floor Leader Eduardo Peñaredondo favorably endorsing STL.

Group hits printer's unfair trade practices

A group of printing press owners in the city has complained of unfair trade practices against one printer for employing "dirty tricks" which could be detrimental to the printing industry as a whole.

Lawyer Alex Espino, spokesperson of Rep. Judy Syjuco and her husband Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) director general Augusto Syjuco, made real his threat of filing libel charges against provincial administrator Manuel Mejorada for allegedly making libelous remarks against the couple relative to an alleged questionable transaction involving mobile phone units.

Some 100 drivers plying the route of Calumpang- Calaparan yesterday (Thursday) held a one-day strike to show their strong opposition on the recent fare matrix approved by the Land Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

Toxic cocktail downs 2 IRC inmates

Inspired by the healing wonders of rubbing alcohol, two inmates at the Iloilo Rehabilitation Center (IRC) in Pototan, Iloilo concocted an original recipe for an after dinner cocktails. Results? No intoxication but near toxic-episode that had the two desperate "bartenders" hospitalized for intense stomach pains.
