Capiz eyes 'self-sustaining' sports center
Roxas City -- A continuous improvement of all facilities inside the Villareal Stadium here is being undertaken by the provincial government in an aim to convert the center into a self-sustaining sports arena.
This has been announced by Capiz Gov. Vicente Bermejo during his province address as he stressed the construction of a rubberized track oval with an estimated cost of P25 million as part of his 10-Point Development Agenda.
The initiative is in line with the sports development program of the province which aims to develop a heart of the champions in the like of "People's Champ" Manny Pacquiao who earned his feat through hard work, discipline, courage and determination.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo commended Pacquiao for successfully defending his World Boxing international super featherweight title against Mexican Oscar Larios last July 2.
An executive order will be issued by Pres. Arroyo to honor Filipino athletes who made the country proud through their achievements.
Pacquiao has drawn an inspiration to many Filipinos to knock down the obstacles along the way and win the bout against all odds that lie ahead.
An incentive for athletes who excel in regional, national and international sports competitions has been put in place in the province to complement the efforts towards a successful sports program.
