OPINION POLLS
How can Iloilo City / Province be competitive locally & internationally?
MARTIN PANES
Create more jobs for Ilonggos. Improve traffic problems.
MILDRED NECESSARIO
Iloilo can be competitive if the city government can provide a one-stop and processing all those needed permits to make it more friendly not just to incoming investors but especially to the locals wherein people find it difficult which make it susceptible to red tapes. Let us hope people will be more disciplined so that it will be easier for the government to market our province.
LOURDES LIM
We should have to export our local goods and to import goods to receive more taxes like what I have experienced in Cebu.
KHOIE HARESCO
Making personalized accessories the government should help us hot to market our products internationally. Bringing our locally made products in Manila is one way to expose our items for international market. I hope the government could seriously consider in helping us. More production means more employment and income for the government.
MICHAEL GORRICETA
Our city and province can be competitive locally and internationally if there is full support from the LGUs and the private sector. Media would be a great help too.
LLOYD CELIS
We need proactive Ilonggos for a competitive Iloilo.
MARISSA SEGOVIA
Lots of points to cover really. As to Iloilo City please refer to PREMIERE CITY 2015 target objectives. Everyone should be hopeful and do his/her share daily.
KENNETH LERONA
The province as a whole will be able to compete locally and internationally by harnessing its agricultural and eco-tourism backbone. The government and the private sectors should boost this by providing a proactive program on infrastructure support, education and training and holistic business process monitoring and control.
MERCI DRILON-GARCIA
Going an extra mile in servicing the needs of would-be investors, making Iloilo a tourist friendly zone whose people animate themselves toward action and knows exactly by heart our city's vision / mission statement and development goals. This could be easily achieved with the cooperation of both the government and the private sector with the mass media forever supporting our city/province worthy undertakings.
LORNA LONGNO
For Iloilo City and the Province to be locally and internationally competitive, a lot is needed. If we are talking of tourism, major concerns are infrastructure, facilities and service quality. They all need a lot of attention. We are very inferior compared to regional and international players. We need to market Iloilo to new grounds but we are not yet there to be competitive. Let us stop price war and focus on quality. Let us end our image of being laid back. Let us stop our Ilonggo well known negative traits (palahikay, mahinay, over segurista and over kuripot)... Let us adapt to new business trends and think world class. It has been proven that we excel when we were brought out of the city/province. Let our talents shine; share them in this city/province of Iloilo, our hometown. Open our eyes to positive outlook and let us develop the correct attitude to achieve that ideal character of being globally competitive.
LOT CONTRERAS
Encourage multinationals to invest on industries / manufacturing to address employment before we could compete with Cebu, we have products that can compete internationally. For our city to host international convention, upgrade hotels, food with affordable rates, our mangoes.
MARY TIU-TOLIONGCO
Being an educational center, Iloilo has the advantage in terms of qualified and highly skilled resources. What is needed is to optimize and provide the necessary avenues for them to apply their learning. Once materialized, Iloilo is globally competitive and economically sustainable.
MARTIN SORIANO
The key is in the ports. Innovate. Make them duty free like Hong Kong, something like that. Sinamay weaving in the 18th century and sugar in the 19th century are proofs that the ports are it.
MICHAEL CALING
Same question that is bugging the city and the whole country. Political will and temperance like what Lee Kuan Yew did in a dismembered, arid and ethnically divided country like Singapore in 1965. A good shepherd to a unruly herd of sheep and goats. With the Wisdom of Solomon yet tough to kill the wolves in their midst.
LANGGA JAVELLANA
By boosting its tourism attractions. With help from government, cooperation of all sectors things will work out fine.
NELSON ROBLES
Private employers should stop hiring workers on a contractual scheme. People should be given a sense of dignity even in lowly kinds of jobs. Blame it all to former accidental President Cory Aquino.

DR. LOUIE KANAPI
First of all, we need a big convention center that can accommodate delegates at national level. Iloilo is such a place rich in cultural heritage (the old churches, houses, buildings & its history) & that's one aspect that we need to promote... Of course don't forget the food... fresh, namit & cheap...
