DepEd Region VI holds Asatidz training
A 22-day pre-service training for Muslim teachers (Azatids) was officially opened recently at the Regional Education Learning Center (DepEd 6) in Duran St., Iloilo City with Undersecretary for Mindanao Affairs Dr. Manaros B. Boransing as keynote speaker.
The Intensified Training of Muslim Teachers (Asatidz) for Arabic Language and Islamic Values Education (ALIVE) will run until May 8, 2006. There are twenty-two participants for the training which come from Iloilo City (5), Iloilo Province (1), Antique (2), Roxas City (3), Bacolod City (5), San Carlos City (4), and Aklan (2). These Asatidz will undergo Beginning English for Asatidz (BEA), a pre-requisite before they will be fielded in public schools on June for the School Year 2006-2007.
This nationwide program is anchored on DepEd Order # 51, S. 2004 that there should be global committment on "Education for All" to provide access to quality education that includes all forms of educational delivery system.
Children should be given quality education irrespective of their race, color, religion, culture. For Muslims in other parts of the country, Islamic Education should prepare a generation of learned and intellectual Muslims imbued with Islamic Values and spiritually-prepared to serve people and the country as a whole. In the interest of national unity, as one of the ten-point agenda of Pres. Gloria M. Arroyo the government has to give importance to the welfare of our Muslim brothers and with the implementation of the 1996 Peace Agreement, Madrasah Education is declared a vital component of the National Education System, hence this training is born.
The following modules are undertaken: MODULE 1 Listening and Speaking Skills; MODULE 2 Reading and Writing Skills; MODULE 3 Teaching Methods and Lesson Planning; MODULE 4 The Public School System under the tutelage of four (4) competent trainers: Mrs. Mary Hazel Vivien P. Pineda, Educational Supervisor II (Social Studies) of Region VI; Mrs. Maricor L. Daprinal, Principal I of Bacolod City; Mrs. Eva M. Dollosa, Master Teacher II of San Carlos City and Mr. Nerio Benito E. Eseo, Principal I of Iloilo City. These trainers had undergone the National Training held last February 27 to March 24, 2006 at Davao City.
Through the concerted efforts of the different Schools Division Superintendents: Dr. Erlinda G. Gencaya (Iloilo City); Dr. Raymundo A. Lapating (Iloilo Province); Mrs. Corazon P. Brown (Antique); Dr. Victoria S. Laroza (Aklan); Mrs. Ma. Gemma M. Ledesma (San Carlos City); Dr. Jesse M. Gomez (Roxas City); Dr. Milagros S. Gonzales (Bacolod City) and DepEd Region VI officials Dr. Victoriano Tirol, Regional Director, and the Elementary Education Division headed by EED Chief Dr. Mina Celia L. Angostura, the Local Executives of these key cities, success of the implementation of this program will be ensured.
