4 Ilonggos earn medals in 3rd ASEAN Para Games
Iloilo City -- Four Ilonggo medalists in the recent 3rd ASEAN Para Games had a courtesy call (Thursday) at the office of Mayor Jerry Treņas.
The athletes were Ryan Mosquera, Anne Grace Abeto, May Rose Devaras and Tanya Denamarca.
Mosquera won a gold medal and two silver medals in track and field and Abeto had two silvers in track and field. While, Devaras had one silver and one bronze in swimming and Denamarca had one silver also in swimming.
The ASEAN Para Games is a biennial multi-sports championship of the ASEAN Para Sports Federation (ASPF). It follows the Southeast Asian Games and is hosted by the same country where the SEA Games took place. The recent game was held at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex-Manila.
Manila was the host of the Para Games for the first time.
The 3rd ASEAN Para Games is a showcase of skills and abilities of the disabled athletes of the ASEAN sporting family connecting and moving ASEAN together in unity towards equal opportunity in sports and life. The ASEAN Para Games is governed by the ASEAN Para Sports Federation with Mr. Zainal Abu Zarin as president.
The objectives of the international games are to promote friendship and solidarity among the persons with disabilities in the ASEAN region through sports, promote and develop sports for the differently abled and to rehabilitate and integrate persons with disability into mainstream society through sports.
The participating countries are Philippines, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Brunei Darussalam, Timor Leste, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
