78-year old drug suspect wants freedom this Christmas
Christmas is the time of the year when families gather together and share the joy of the season. But for prisoners inside detention cells it is just a wish. Take for instance Lola Anita Goriona, 78 years old, a prisoner at the Iloilo City Detention Cell in Gen. Luna St. Lola Anita is oldest of the 73 inmates in the said jail. She has been in prison for almost one year and eight months due to illegal possession of prohibited drugs.
Family of 4 rescued, 50 more evacuated in Janiuay, Lambunao
Incessant rains brought by tropical depression Quedan threatened at least fifty families living along riverbank-barangays in the towns of Janiuay and Lambunao, Iloilo over the weekend. Local rescue groups and municipal officials consolidated evacuation efforts Saturday with the affected families temporarily transferred to higher grounds when floodwaters began rising in the area.

It is both good news and bad news for some 2,000 Capitol employees with the Iloilo Provincial Government set to release P10,000 in individual Christmas bonuses.

SP approves budget for major programs
The Sangguniang Panlungsod in a special session Friday approved the funding allocations for the Supplemental Budget No.8, the Executive Budget for 2006 and the Annual Development Plan and Investment Program for 2006 .
Business Registration Plate to be imposed on city businesses
Business establishments and occupational undertakings in the city will have to secure business tax registration plates starting next year. This after the Sangguniang Panlungsod approved the Business Tax Registration Plate Ordinance authored by City Councilor Perla Zulueta. The city government will appropriate P5,250,000 for the implementation of the ordinance.
ERC, setting a bad precedent--FDC
"The granting of a provisional authority for a rate increase by the ERC on the basis of simply a devious blackout threat is setting a bad precedent," declared the Freedom from Debt Coalition – Iloilo Chapter. "Is this how easily our government can bow down to the demands of a private corporation? If the ERC can easily be pressured by mere pronouncements of power blackouts, then how can we expect this agency to protect the consumers against the abuses of these power corporations?"
